Gossen DigiPro F2 Flash and Ambient Light Meter v2
The DigiPro F2 Flash and Ambient Light Meter v2 from Gossen serves as a versatile tool for both analog and digital photographers and filmmakers who utilize continuous lighting and flash. This light meter fully realizes its capabilities through the incident light metering technique, which operates independently of the subject’s characteristics, unlike the reflected light metering method employed by cameras. The swivel head design allows the measuring sensor to be positioned at the subject level, making it particularly useful for macro and tabletop photography.
In photo mode, the shutter pre-selection metering function enables users to specify the desired exposure time, facilitating sharp focus on moving subjects. The exposure meter subsequently calculates the necessary f-stop to be set on the camera. By pressing and holding the metering button while scanning the subject, the contrast range is displayed on the f-stop scale in f-stop values. Conversely, when utilizing the aperture pre-selection metering function, users can set the desired f-stop to control depth of field, with the exposure meter determining the corresponding exposure time. The exposure value measuring function provides the exposure value along with various combinations of f-stop and shutter speed. Additionally, the adjustable correction value of +9.9 EV accommodates significant extension factors for neutral-density filters, which are essential for long exposure photography in daylight conditions.
Flash exposure metering allows for operation with or without a synchronizing cable. The exposure meter calculates the appropriate aperture for accurate exposure based on the preset flash sync time, presenting this information as a digital value and as a flashing indicator on the analog aperture scale. Additionally, a continuous light component aperture marking is consistently displayed, enabling an assessment of the continuous light’s contribution to the overall illumination. Should the flash power be inadequate to achieve a desired f-stop setting, the exposure meter can determine the necessary number of multiple flashes required.
The exposure value function can be adjusted to provide a straightforward measurement of illuminance in lux or foot-candles, facilitating film lighting setup. In HD CINE mode, exposure durations from 1/24 to 1/120 of a second are specifically available, aligning with frame rates of 24 to 120 fps. To accommodate contemporary HD cameras, the ISO setting has been enhanced to include ISO 850.
